How to manage breeding tasks in Mare

You can add and edit breeding tasks via the profile of your mares.

Go to the Mare Profile and then navigate to the Breeding tab.

You will now see a Bookings sub-tab, which is the default sub-tab.

Every booking for the mare is shown in this screen, regardless whether:

1. the booking is to a Stallion standing on your farm or to an outside Stallion; or

2. the booking is Confirmed or Unconfirmed; or

3. a Cover Date is set or not.

Add Breeding task(s) manually

Use the Add Breeding Task action on the relevant Booking.

You can then select from the defined list of breeding tasks.

Note: There are currently no other breeding tasks available. To add other tasks, such as Follicle Scans, Caslick etc, you may choose to select ‘Other' and manually enter the task. In future releases you will be able to maintain a list of custom breeding tasks.

Edit or Complete Breeding task(s)

Click the Booking row to display the task or tasks you add.

You can complete and/or edit these tasks using the Action icons as normal. Input notes as required.

Edit or complete breeding tasks and record the actual time and result, and optionally add notes

Upon completion of some tasks, other tasks may be created automatically or semi-automatically via a pop-up window.

Using the Action Icons to the right of each breeding task / pregnancy milestone:

attach files (media or pdf documents)

Add procedures

Add expenses

Mare pregnancy scan tasks are now created progressively

Pregnancy scan tasks and the foaling task are now created progressively as tasks are completed, rather than created all at once. This reduces the number of future tasks in the system and on the breeding worksheet, beyond the next sequential task.

The sequence of tasks is as follows:

Create Scan 1 (early scan) task upon completion of Ovulation Scan when result is 'Ovulated', or upon mare Service if not ovulation scan is requested;
Create Scan 2 (mid scan) task upon completion of Scan 1 task when the result is 'Positive';
Create Scan 3 (mid scan) task upon completion of Scan 2 task when the result is 'Positive';
Create a Foaling task upon completion of the Scan 3 task when the result is 'Positive'.

Note that you may record a pregnancy scan as 'Negative', but later modify that result to 'Positive' upon re-examination at a later date. In such cases when a scan result is changed to 'Positive', the next sequential scan task or foaling task will be automatically created.

A Booking is added for the season and Stallion entered, and various breeding tasks may be created depending on the mare's status.
